She Leads Africa Financial Empowerment App Case Study
The Challenge
Through interactions at events and social media, SLA discovered that 65% of their users struggled with financial management. Since financial education aligns with their mission, they initially designed a prototype and gathered user feedback. I worked with the Product Manager to analyze spending, saving, and investment behaviors, refining the information architecture to ensure a seamless user experience.
The UX design process involved user research to understand behaviors and challenges. I restructured the information architecture for intuitive navigation and designed an interface that presented financial data in simple, digestible formats. Wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes were iterated based on remote user testing to ensure the app effectively addressed real user needs.
Onboarding Experience
To segment users effectively, onboarding needed to collect essential data. Since the process was lengthy, I ensured it was guided, intuitive, and engaging by:
Using clear instructions to prevent errors.
Implementing progress indicators to set expectations.
Streamlining navigation for a smooth experience.
Savings & Investment Features
The app simplified saving and investing with clear breakdowns:
Step-by-step guidance for ease of use.
Transparent savings dashboard, showing:
Total savings
Earned interest
Progress toward goals
This ensured that even non-financially savvy users could confidently manage their money.
This project empowered African women with financial knowledge and tools for success. Through user research, iterative design, and usability testing, we created an intuitive platform that aligns with SLA’s mission—helping users develop financial discipline and achieve long-term empowerment.
