The project aimed to create a fintech platform that enables African businesses to quickly and securely pay logistics providers—air, land, and ocean carriers, maritime ports, freight forwarders, and warehouse operators. The long-term vision was to build the largest independent freight payments network in Africa, starting with an MVP to simplify how businesses pay for cargo and related services
The Challenge?
Pricing Visibility: Businesses had little to no visibility into vendor pricing, making it difficult to make informed decisions.
Manual Processes: Payments were mostly handled by freight forwarders through physical, cash-based transactions.
Fragmented & Expensive Cross-Border Payments: Sending and receiving money across African borders was slow, fragmented, and costly for businesses.
The Solution
By creating a central platform, aggregated with vendors, we plan to be able to address the following:
Pricing Visibility: Shippers should be able to view vendor prices in a central platform that enables them to make informed decisions.
Security: Shippers and vendors now have an alternative, secure way of making and receiving payments respectively. Reduction in cash payments and seamless refunds.
Speed: Shippers and vendors should be able to make and receive payments faster. There will be less reliance on agents (freight forwarders) to make payments. Vendors will ultimately be able to increase their transaction volume.
The MVP provided a faster, more secure, and transparent way for African businesses to handle freight payments. It streamlined the process for shippers and vendors while laying the groundwork for a scalable payments network across the continent.
